Session 1: 9:00--10:30  Affirming Students' Home Languages in the Classroom (all, Principle 1)

• Reflect on how you currently invite, present and affirm home languages in your classroom using the CA EL Roadmap Teacher Toolkit. 
• Learn about specific tools and practices developed by SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language)  to deepen your practices in this area so that students and families feel welcomed and valued.
• Share ideas with other classroom teachers on how to implement. 
• Develop a plan for your classroom

Session 2:  10:45--12:15  Language Functions, Graphic Organizer and Language Focus Walls (novice, Principle 2) 

How can we use Language Functions to intentionally organize our explicit language instruction across the year in ways that focus on purpose and meaning?
How can we use graphic organizers and Language Focus Walls to support our multlingual learners in accessing language resources?
Participants will have the opportunity view classroom video on Language Focus Walls in action and receive access to tools developed by SEAL to support using Language Functions and associated graphic organizers and sentence stems in their classrooms.

Session 3:  12:45--2:15  Oral Language Analysis (OLA)  (experienced, Principle 2)

How can we assess student progress in Speaking domain to meaningfully inform our ELD instruction?
Consider why, when, how and what to look for .  
We will analyze an oral language sample together using an ELPAC-aligned framework and also have time to build a plan for collecting your own samples.
